What is Tableau Server?
Tableau Server is a Business Intelligence solution that provides browser-based visual analytics to anyone. It is a web-based component, anyone from any part of the world can view and interact with your work via web-browser. Tableau Servers are for customers that need to control where and how the data is stored and managed.
Tableau Server automatically refreshes data extracts that have been published to Server. Using Tableau Servers users can publish all the developed reports, Dashboards into the server according to the needs of everyone across the Organization. In other words, Server allows users to share the developed objects within one Organization internally.
Different Tableau Servers
Tableau Server enables users to create subscriptions for email notifications when any reports or dashboards are published. Tableau Server is licensed in two ways.
- By named-user : These licenses are for smaller deployments.
- Core licensing : These licenses are for larger deployments ad more cost effective and reduce administrative time because it has number of cores in database server’s processor.
How Tableau Admin will work on Tableau Server?
Tableau server is the core platform for administrators. Tableau Admin will work on Server for creating user authentications. Administrators will have access to monitor system performance, report consumption and server utilization.
- Tableau Administrators can assign rights for publishing, consuming and modifying reports.
- They can enable special guest account with unrestricted access.
- Admin can configure default language and locale.
What is Tableau Desktop?
Tableau Desktop is designed for creating visual analytics and Dashboards. Personal edition and Professional editions are the two Tableau Desktop versions available.
Tableau Reader?
Tableau Reader permits users to share content and work using Tableau desktop tool. It is a free version that allows users to consume Tableau Desktop reports without the need for paid license.
